A Little Doctor Who for you!

I have a secret to confess. It's a little known fact that I am rather a nerd. Okay, who am I kidding? It's a well-known fact! Mostly, I am a book nerd. I love the touch, smell and sound of books. I love pretty much everything about them.

But my nerdiness does not stop there. It extends this way and that into other realms. And my most recent nerd crush is on Doctor Who. Actually, this is a very old nerd crush. I was a big fan of the Doctor back when he was flying about the universe wearing a natty scarf and looking a lot like actor Tom Baker.

These days, the Doctor has a new face, new (and much improved) special effects, and looks a lot like David Tennant.

I know that quite a few of my friends are also fans of Doctor Who and thought I'd post this little bit for them while they wait for the new season to begin. Enjoy!

Good Gracious, Ignacious!

The year is ending very well for dear Iggy Peck. Iggy was named one of the top 10 Children's Books of the year at Time Magazine! For this exciting news and more, check out my website!
Hurray, Iggy!

Young Architects!

Wow! I have been so sleepy lately. And I finally figured out why! There was kryptonite in my pillow! Case closed!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recently, I received some very cool pictures from a young architect named Carsten. In true Iggy style, Carsten & Company have created some fantastic buildings with plastic & paper cups and scraps of wood. Check them out!!!

The next one is my favorite. Check out the interior designs. Beautiful!

Thank you, Carsten & your lovely mom who sent me these pictures!

I really love hearing from the many folks who are connecting with Iggy. Maybe we should have a "Friends of Iggy" club. Though it would be Iggy Peck.

And not this one:

Young Architects and Iggy Peck

One of the very best parts of being a children's author is hearing from kids and parents who read my books! I have been hearing lately from lots of kids and their grown-ups about IGGY PECK, ARCHITECT.

The other day, I got the following cool pictures from my young friend, Ethan who is an architect, like Iggy!

My favorite was the giant tower he built that reached all the way to the ceiling!

I love getting pics like this from architects! If you have one you'd like to share, you can e-mail me at andreabeaty@gmail.com!

Thanks, Ethan!

Lego love: Iggy Peck in Legoland.

IGGY PECK Goes to Legoland!

I've been invited to go to Legoland! Yes! I mean LEGOLAND! THE Legoland. The Land of Legos in
sunny San Diego, Californ-I-A!

Actually, Iggy and I have been invited.

On January 25, 2008, I'll be at Legoland California sharing my new book, IGGY PECK, ARCHITECT with a whole oodles and bunches of Legomaniacs! (I am actually unsure of the group designation for Legomaniacs. Do they travel in herds or gaggles? Flocks or Mini-vans? Hmmm.)

What could be more fun than reading a book about a boy who loves to build to oodles of kids who love to build? I can't imagine!

Here's the info at Legoland's website: Check it out!

I love Legos! What's not to love about tiny plastic bricks that can be used to build wonders like this:

and this:

Gets great gas mileage.

And THIS!!!! Holy Cow!!!!!

Artist Nathan Sawaya! Wowza!

More to come as details emerge!

A New Blog and a New Book!

It's here! It's here!
IGGY PECK, ARCHITECT is here!

And what better way
to celebrate than having cake and doing a dance?

By starting a blog, of course!

Welcome to my new blog. My name is Andrea Beaty and I'm a children's author and one of the fabulous Three Silly Chicks. (Hint: I'm the one in pink glasses.)

At Three Silly Chicks, we review funny books for kids, interview people who make us laugh, and do the cha-cha with bowls of bean dip on our feathery heads.

I will not be engaging in that sort of bean dip behavior at this blog. It's undignified. Plus it gets your
feathers sticky. Besides, I'm out of bean dip. However, I might be compelled to do the tango or the hustle if a great bowl of salsa comes by.

I hope you'll drop by from time to time and join me to learn what's going on with my books and with me!

But enough about me.
What do you think about me?

-------------

I am so excited!

My second book, IGGY PECK, ARCHITECT is out! In fact, I've heard of a couple of sightings of it in the wild. Which looks a lot like this:

With cheap binoculars, it looks a lot like this:

In a picture, it looks a lot like this:

IGGY PECK, ARCHITECT
by Andrea Beaty
Illustrated by David Roberts
Abrams Books for Young Readers
ISBN 13: 978-0810911062

IGGY PECK, ARCHITECT is a fun book about a boy named Iggy who is born to build. He wants to build all the time and doesn't care what materials are available. He makes them ALL work--including food, mud, and diapers. (Dirty ones!)

David Roberts illustrated IGGY PECK, ARCHITECT with a fun, funky retro style that is spare and yet full of cool images. Each time I read the book, I find something new and funny in the art!

I hope you'll check out Iggy! You can see some sample pages over at my website: www.AndreaBeaty.com.

In the coming weeks, I'll be adding lots of new items to my website for Iggy fans, including teacher guides and items for booksellers! I'll post here on the blog when that happens!

Thanks for visiting today! I hope you'll come back again soon!

All my best,

Andrea Beaty
